Janice Atkin has been involved in Health and Physical Education curriculum development and implementation for the past 15 years in Australia. She has managed the development and delivery of curriculum at an international, national, state, regional and school level during this time.
Portfolio of curriculum experience:
Senior Project Officer – Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (2011-2014)
Janice was employed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority to manage the writing of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education. This role involved leading and managing a team of writers, consulting with expert advisory groups and liaising with key stakeholders including government official, education authority officers, state and territory Departments of Education, independent sector stakeholders and broader community organisations.
Lead writer and project manager – Abu Dhabi Education Reform project (2007)
Janice was contracted by the NSW Department of Education and Training to lead and manage the Health and Physical Education curriculum team in the writing, consulting and refining of the Kindergarten to Year 10 curriculum.
Senior Curriculum Adviser – NSW Department of Education and Training (2003-2008)
Janice was employed by the NSW Department of Education and Training to provide curriculum implementation support and high level strategic advice to senior executive, schools, government departments and external organisations.
Board Curriculum Committee member – NSW Board of Studies (2001-2010)
Janice was the nominated representative for the NSW Department of Education and Training (2001-2008) and ACHPER NSW (2009-2010) on the Board Curriculum Committee. In this time, Janice provided significant input to the development of the NSW PDHPE Years 7-10 syllabus, NSW PDHPE Stage 6 syllabus revisions, NSW Physical Activity and Sports Studies Board Endorsed Course, Community and Family Studies Stage 6 syllabus, NSW Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Stage 6 syllabus.
